General Considerations

  • Laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) is associated with spillage of gallstones about 5-40% of the time
  • Occurs less frequently in open procedures
  • Incidence more common in
    • Acutely inflamed gallbladder
    • Men
    • Obese
    • Elderly
    • Presence of adhesions
